Berdych Battles Past Russell For Quarter-final Berth
Thursday, 18th February, 2010
ATP World Tour No. 23 Tomas Berdych was made to work hard for his place in the quarter-finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships Thursday...

... fighting back from a set down to defeat American Michael Russell 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the ATP World Tour 500 indoor hard-court tennis tournament in Memphis.
Fifth seed Berdych is through to his third ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season, following a semi-final showing at the Brisbane International (l. to Roddick) and a quarter-final effort at last week’s SAP Open, where he also lost to Andy Roddick. The Czech player, who has defeated two Americans to reach the last eight, is making his debut in Memphis.
Berdych next will face Latvian Ernests Gulbis, who upset third seed Radek Stepanek in the second round yesterday.
Slovakian Lukas Lacko booked a quarter-final meeting with Philipp Petzschner when his opponent, Jeremy Chardy of France, retired due to a stomach illness with World No. 66 Lacko leading 7-6(4), 2-1. The 22 year old is through to his third ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season.
